A foggy scene of the Staten Island ferry in New York City from many years ago I know that A half decent docent doesn't do dat is a very strange title for this post. Tony told me yesterday that I was a "half decent docent" and that lead to playing a word game which resulted in this silly title. It has a repetition of the same sounds or of the same kinds of sounds at the beginning of the words and is called alliteration. But I digress.Tony just got a new camera. He buys new tools in the hopes that will change the way he works and thus keep his art fresh and ever evolving. (He's busy exploring the features of the new camera and new images will available for me to post very soon.)His work has always been intertwined with the use of currently available tools. Today we call those tools technology, and Tony Karp has always used the tools available at any given moment in time to make his images more interesting. Shooting in color was very expensive and some it was critical that you get that image right when you clicked the shutter. For many photographers there was no post processing. What you saw was what you got. It's a very different story today.Technology can support a really nice archive for your work. As you scroll through this little show I have put together you'll see two from a long time ago and two from his current work. So even an artist's muse can use technology in support of her artists. Many of my posts are actually shows. This blog is my gallery and I post what I like and as often as I like. It is another way that technology is changing the nature of art. Just getting a one man gallery show is lot of work and then creating and hanging the show is another big effort. The number of people that can see an on-line show is so much greater than the number that can see a show in a physical gallery. We do both.
The Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor as the sun is setting a long time ago and taken from the Staten Island ferry. It was foggy.
The sun setting over the stream at the end of the road on which we live.
