Mar 08, 2010 - Sunset over the ferry

Revisionism can span decades. Tony saw this scene from the Staten Island ferry a long time ago. He scanned in the original slide sometime in the 90s. He goes through his catalog of images many times every day. He's probably looked at the orginal image thousands of time Then one day he got a new tool. He saw possibilities he hadn't seen before.

Aside from being the main threat in Star Trek: First Contact, the Borg also play major roles in The Next Generation and Voyager television series, primarily as an invasion threat to the United Federation of Planets and the means of return to the Alpha Quadrant for isolated Federation starship Voyager, respectively.

Feb 25, 2010 - Technology makes revisionism possible

In writing, "revisionism" is defined as the retelling of a story with substantial alterations in character or environment, to "revise" the view shown in the original work. Tony Karp has created "artistic revisionism." Tony's work combines art and technology. What you see here is the result of a change in technology that allowed Tony to see his work differently and ultimately helped him to produce new works. But this time instead of applying the technology to a new set of images Tony went back to some existing work. And voila, artistic revisionism. The technique Tony uses is based on his focusing on a particular element of a given image.

Jul 30, 2009 - The eyes have it

Techno-Impressionism has its genesis in photography. In that I mean it starts with the artist using his eye to capture a moment in time. For Tony it's a sketch. What happens next is an evolution (or if you don't believe in that) then a transformation, and/or just plain curiosity. No matter what you call it, it's a creative process at work. Check out the background in these images. That is the part that's changed until you get to the last one.

A key enabler is of course the ever advancing technology. The virtual tools that allow Tony to see the image a certain way and then share it with you.
