Here's a catalog of the show

Illusion - by Tony Karp
Illusion

This image is one of my favorites. The effect of pieces of differently-toned paper floating above the canvas. Beneath the paper, soft shadows give a feeling of depth.

When I showed a print of this image to the owner of a gallery along the Place de Vosges in Paris, he reached over and touched the print, so effective was the three dimensional look.

It started out as a photograph, then passed though many iterations I've often thought that this would make an interesting book cover

Broken shell #1 - by Tony Karp
Broken shell #1

Some have questioned why the shells I photograph are broken or imperfect, and some have commented that they have better shells. Perfect shells are easy to find. There are hundreds of shops that sell them, and they aren't very expensive to acquire

Evening Flowers - by Tony Karp
Evening Flowers

Just a few flowers, at sunset in the field behind our Haymarket house.

About three years ago, we moved here from New York City, after having lived there for over sixty years.

We feel that we have moved to paradise.

Broken shell #2 - by Tony Karp
Broken shell #2

Why the broken shells? I believe that shells are like people. The imperfections add character. Where there is a hole in the shell, you can look into its interior and see another universe. You can see where the creature that inhabited the shell actually lived. And you can see what happened to the shell after its owner abandoned it. (Many of those beautiful shells that you see in the stores had living creatures in them when they were "harvested" to sell to the tourists.)

The artist and his muse - by Tony Karp
The artist and his muse

This is the shadow of both the artist and his muse. Sometimes, they appear together like this and cast their shadows onto the earthly plane.

A face from the palace - by Tony Karp
A face from the palace

This figure looks down on The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Originally, it was part of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition.

This building now houses the world-famous Exploratorium

To get this effect, I combined negative space with positive vibrations, which yields an ink wash sketch.
